Book Club
:
Book Club is offered to 4th and 5th grade students each year. Students are given the opportunity to sign up, but selection is based on responsibility, good citizenship and teacher recommendations. Space is limited to 24 students per grade. Each grade meets once a week in the library, during recess time, and reads the same story. Students are expected to read 1-2 chapters a week. If a student fails to complete 2 reading assignments, that student will be released from Book Club. The books will be purchased by the school. Students will be able to keep their copy to represent their personal commitment to literacy. After completing the story, the movie, which is based on the book, will be viewed together. Students will then be given the chance to compare and contrast each element and share what they liked or disliked about each.
